Jacob Conklin

 

The Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia borders Maryland and Virginia. The first European settlers started arriving about 1730.

Many Scots-Irish and English settlers came to the Shenandoah Valley from Pennsylvania in the 18th century.

Jacob Conklin was born on August 16, 1771 in a part of Frederick County, Virginia that is now Jefferson County, West Virginia. His fatheer was Jacob Conklin.

A Jacob Conklin married Sarah Williams on February 7, 1792 in Frederick County, Virginia.

Jacob moved to Ohio before 1811. The poll book for the election held in Mad River Township, Champaign County, Ohio on October 11, 1811 included Jacob Conklin.

In 1820 there was a Jacob Conklin in Jackson Township, Champaign County, Ohio. The household consisted of a and a woman man over 45, a man between 16 and 25, a boy and a girl beween 10 and 15, and three boys under 10.

In 1830 the Jacob Conklin household consisted of a man between 60 and 69, a woman betwen 40 and 49, a man between 15 and 19 and two boys between 10 and 14.

  • Berkeley County, Virginia was created from the northern third of Frederick County, Virginia in 1772. Jefferson County was formed from the county's eastern section. In 1863 Berkeley County became part of the new state of West Virginia.
